Det var turistsjef [[Ulf Kløve]] (fødd 1931) som hadde ideen til dagen som starta i 1957 og allereie fyrste året samla nær 500 deltakarar. Arrangementet startar med gudsteneste i [[Hol gamle kyrkje]]. Derifrå går eit brurefølgje langs [[Holsfjorden]] og til museet, der ein feirar bryllaup på gamlemåten med dans, musikk, servering av [[småmat]] og [[lefsekling]] - og ikkje minst øl frå fat. Publikum kan også oppleve skodespel.
