AAKS er et interkommunalt selskap hvor kommunene og fylkeskommunen i Aust-Agder er eiere. Foto er i dag en viktig kilde til kunnskap om fortiden. Aust-Agder kulturhistoriske senter samler inn, oppbevarer, registrerer og formidler fotografier, negativer og filmer. I dag består samlingen av 300. bilder, de fleste originale. Billedsamlingene blir oppbevart i sikre magasiner. Vårt mål er er å registrere tilveksten i Asta, og enkeltbildene lagres i Primus. Foreløpig blir de også søkbare i trykte kataloger. Reproduksjoner av våre bilder kan bestilles her eller på lesesalen. Vi leverer kopier til privat bruk, trykksaker, utstillinger mm. Kopiene leveres på fotopapir eller digitalt. I løpet av 2006 ble det utarbeidet en plan for bevaring og digitalisering av foto og selve digitaliseringsarbeidet ble satt i gang februar 2007.
