Kom i lære hos fotograf Simonnæs omkring århundreskiftet og var senere ansatt i Sponlands atelier. Eget atelier i Kongensgate 20, fra 1912 til midten av 1920-årene. En tid var han fotograf i Bergen og på Voss, men trolig uten å ha eget atelier på disse steder. Av de bevarte bilder i Aalesunds Museum synes det å fremgå at hans atelierbilder er av en langt bedre kvalitet enn hans landskapsbilder/bymotiver.
