Herberth]].<br /> <br /> == Navnestrid ==<br /> I perioden 1925–1930 ble flere bynavn fornorsket som ledd i den språklige nasjonalismen som var utbredt i Norge i første del av det 20. århundre (1925: Oslo, 1927: Halden, 1930: Stavern). Ved lov 14. juni 1929 ble det bestemt at byen Trondhjem fra 1. januar 1930 skulle ha Nidaros som offisielt navn. Det var tidligere, i 1928, avholdt en lokal avstemming om bynavnet: 17 163 stemte mot endring, og 1508 for. Befolkningen og bystyret, som ønsket å beholde Trondhjem som navn, følte seg overkjørt og protestene lot ikke vente på seg.<br /> <br /> Herberths sang var en protest mot denne navneendringen.<br /> <br /> Etter en opprivende navnestrid ble saken tatt opp på ny i Stortinget.
